Mission
Vision
Improving people's health, statewide and worldwide.
Mission
The mission of the School is to expand, disseminate and apply
the body of knowledge regarding prevention of disease,
disability and environmental degradation; promotion of health
and well-being in diverse populations; and provision of
effective, efficient and equitable health services.
Goals
1. To achieve and maintain research excellence as demonstrated
by the creation of knowledge integral to public health;
2. To provide educational programs of excellence for public
health professionals and scholars, statewide and worldwide;
3. To utilize available knowledge to improve health and address
the environmental issues that face South Carolina, the nation
and the world community; and
4. To provide the infrastructure and resources to meet the goals
of education, research, and professional service.
Objectives
Goal 1: |
To achieve and maintain research
excellence as demonstrated by the creation of knowledge
integral to public health, the School will:
- Encourage and promote active faculty engagement in
scholarly and research activities.
- Identify, support and promote collaborative
(interdepartmental, intra- and inter-university)
research opportunities in selected areas integral to the
science and practice of public health.

Goal 2: |
To provide educational programs of
excellence for public health professionals and scholars,
statewide and worldwide, the School will:
- Recruit and mentor highly qualified students from
diverse backgrounds in all academic and professional
programs.
- Provide master's and doctoral level training in all
represented disciplines of public health.
- Provide bachelor's level training in Exercise
Science
- Provide educational programs with a level of quality
that is satisfactory to the currently enrolled students,
alumni, and employers.
- Provide distance education opportunities for
aspiring and practicing public health professionals
throughout South Carolina, the region and the nation.
- Revise or develop new academic programs to address
educational needs brought about by the changing health
care market.

Goal 3: |
To utilize available knowledge to
improve health and address the environmental issues that
face South Carolina, the nation and the world community,
the School will:
- Provide consultation and technical advice to
community partners, professional organizations, and
public policy makers.
- Provide continuing
education opportunities for aspiring and practicing
public health professionals throughout South
Carolina, the region and the nation.

Goal 4: |
To provide the infrastructure and
resources to meet the goals of education, research, and
professional service, the School will:
- Recruit, develop, promote and retain a diverse
faculty fully capable of carrying out the School's
mission, goals and objectives.
- Provide school administration and faculty clearly
defined rights and responsibilities concerning school
governance and academic policies. Students shall also
have participatory roles in school governance.
- Monitor and evaluate goals and objectives to be
current and relevant in guiding the SPH to the future.
- Maintain physical, human, and fiscal resources to
operate the research, instructional and service programs
of the School.
