Recruitment and Retention in Community Residential Care Facilities Maintaining quality staff in facilities that provide services to the aging populations is very important in providing quality care. The long term care industry faces high turnover and is faced with a shortage in the workforce. Quality care can be compromised when there are fewer qualified workers and when facilities are unable to keep the workers they do have. OSA has studied this issue and understands the importance of addressing the challenges faced by community residential care facilities. OSA provides training workshops on improving recruitment and retention of direct care staff to managers/supervisors of community and residential care facilities in SC. In addition, OSA also provides technical assistance to a limited number of facilities that express an interest in receiving additional help with the initiative. The 3-session training course provides proven strategies to address long term care facility recruitment and retention issues. Each session is approximately 6 hours and provides CEUs to long term care administrators. The training format is designed to address specific challenges in each workshop. This format allows participants the time to implement strategies and the opportunity to share experiences and ask questions of the trainers and their peers. At the end of each session, participants are encouraged to plan out the next steps for implementing their chosen strategies.
