Our Mission, Vision, and Values

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote healthy aging through program development, evaluation, education/training and research.  OSA seeks to improve long term care service delivery for South Carolina's older adults by providing evidence-based information to policy makers, health care professionals and the public.

Our Vision

As we look forward to the future, the Office for the Study of Aging will be a leader in enhancing the health, independence, and quality of life of South Carolinians as they age.  We are committed to excellence in translational research that influences those who impact the lives of South Carolina’s aging population.

Our Values

As we pursue our mission and vision, OSA pledges to:

  • have INTEGRITY in all that we do.  We strive to make sound judgments that are founded on complete knowledge, after thorough reviews of existing practices and science, and to communicate that knowledge effectively to the practice and research communities.  We strive in all of our work to fulfill the Carolinian Creed that governs the University of South Carolina.
  • be  RELEVANT in our program development, services, training and  research to promote successful aging.  We strive to maintain awareness of best practices in aging to assist South Carolinians in becoming knowledgeable of helpful information and resources.  We strive to remain connected to the community and cognizant of the current needs of South Carolina’s older population.
  • be on the CUTTING EDGE of aging research and utilize innovative methods to address the evolving needs of the individuals we serve.
  • utilize TEAMWORK to achieve our goals together, valuing and respecting one another’s talents and strengths to ensure our maximum potential is reached.
  • be DEDICATED to providing quality services and results that are accessible to those who work in the field of aging services.
  • be EMPOWERING through educating South Carolinians on aging issues and facilitating their personal contributions in successful aging.
