(November 2, 2010)

The South Carolina Rural Health Research Center kicked off its celebration of its 10th year of operation with two presentations by Francis Chesley, MD.  Dr. Chesley, the Director of Extramural Research, Education and Special Programs at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, gave two talks to packed rooms.  In his first session,”AHRQ Research and Training Opportunities,” Dr. Chesley discussed research themes funded by AHRQ and various avenues that faculty and students could pursue to obtain funding for their research.  In his second talk, “Eliminating Health Disparities,” Dr. Chesley discussed healthcare quality disparities across populations and AHRQ initiatives aimed at reducing these disparities.

Both sessions were well attended, with participants from across USC and its community partners, including the Greenville Hospital System and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
