Health Services Policy and Management

Health services policy and management is an interdisciplinary field concerned with the promotion of personal and public health through planning, organizing, directing, controlling, coordinating, and evaluating health services.

Career opportunities exist in hospitals and clinics, state and federal health care agencies, professional organizations, consulting firms, insurance companies, health departments, and hospital and medical associations.

Jobs in the field include management consultant, CEO, CFO, professional relations associate, quality assurance manager, and health industry analyst.

National Recognition for André G. Stanley, MPH (1995 HSPM Graduate)

The American Public Health Association announced André G. Stanley, MPH, as the 2011 recipient of the prestigious APHA Public Health Fellowship in Government. Stanley was awarded the one-year fellowship following a highly competitive selection process. He will spend 2011 in Washington, D.C., working with legislators and staff on Capitol Hill to help inform public health policy decisions.  With 30 years of public health experience, Stanley brings his dedication, enthusiasm and strong leadership skills to the Hill.  He earned his Masters of Public Health from the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina.

“On behalf of APHA, we are very proud to have André Stanley, a life-long public health advocate and leader, serve as the 2011 APHA Public Health Fellow in Government” said Georges C. Benjamin, executive director of APHA. “This fellowship provides a unique experience for increasing the capacity of public health professionals to inform relevant policy discussions and decisions. Filled with a respect and zeal for the political process, Mr. Stanley will bring his enthusiastic voice of public health expertise to the dialogue.”  In addition, Stanley is the proud father of twin daughters, and an aspiring voice over artist when he is not working on his other passion, public health advocacy.
