OVERVIEW

Sara Wilcox directs the Behavioral Science Laboratory. Dr. Wilcox’s research has two primary foci. First, she studies factors that influence physical activity. This research is grounded in behavioral theory and attempts to understand personal, social, and environmental factors that relate to physical activity in generally understudied populations. Second, she conducts research to promote physical activity and healthy eating in individuals and communities. This research also uses behavioral theory to guide the interventions and uses frameworks and approaches including community-based participatory research and social ecological models. Most of Dr. Wilcox’s work has been done with women, older adults, and African Americans.

In 2007, Dr. Wilcox received the Arnold School of Public Health Faculty Research Award.
