The Cardiovascular Risk Factor Screening Program
provides a detailed evaluation of coronary risk factors
and physical fitness. The screening program consists of
two separate dates to provide each participant with a
complete risk factor assessment. The prescreening date
will include:
- a health history questionnaire
- resting blood pressure measurement
- height and weight measurements
- body composition assessment
- a blood draw to assess total cholesterol, HDL-C,
LDL-C, VLDL-C, total cholesterol to HDL-C ratio,
triglycerides, and glucose
- a resting ECG
Following the prescreening date, participants will
undergo a physician supervised maximal graded exercise
test. This will evaluate heart function during exercise
as well as assess physical fitness. Measurements will be
made during the maximal graded exercise test including:
- ECG monitoring
- blood pressure assessment
- heart rate assessment
The results of the prescreening and maximal graded
exercise test are interpreted for each individual by an
exercise physiologist who will make recommendations to
help participants alleviate or minimize potential risk
factors.
