The Preventive Exercise Program offers recreational and
elite athletes a way to improve training programs
through the scientific measurement of aerobic exercise
performance. This service enables athletes to quantify
their fitness level while obtaining information that
will aid in improving physiological variables that
affect performance. The testing protocol consists of a
health history questionnaire followed by a maximal
graded exercise test on either a treadmill or cycle
ergometer. The maximal graded exercise test will include
gas analysis measurements. Variables assessed are:
- maximal oxygen consumption
- the ventilatory threshold
- maximal heart rate
- heart rate at the ventilatory threshold
Each evaluation is accompanied by an individual
consultation with an exercise physiologist to interpret
the results and suggest changes in training to improve
or maintain performance.
