Advisement and Registration Instructions
Each semester all students at the Arnold School of Public Health need to
be advised prior to registering for classes. In addition to meeting with
your academic advisor, each student must complete an advisement form. This
form must be signed by the student, the advisor, and then taken to the
Office of Student and Alumni Services (OSAS) so that advisement registration
holds may be lifted. Please place the form (all copies if carbon copy) in
the drop off box on the wall in HESC Room 112. Please pay close attention to
the directions listed on the drop-off box. We will process your form and
place your copy in the pick up box the next business day. The forms are in
alphabetical order by student’s last name.
All classes and sections have a six-digit schedule code. You will need to
reference this code when you register. A list of courses offered and the
corresponding schedule codes are available at the Registrar’s web page at
http://registrar.sc.edu. If you have difficulty locating a code you may list
the class and instructor’s name on your advisement form and our office will
give you the schedule code.
Registration Instructions:
To register for classes, log on to the “Visual Information Processing
(VIP)” website at https://vip.sc.edu/, or link to VIP from the USC home page
at www.sc.edu.
Then follow the instructions below:
- Click “Login” from the menu on the left side of the page
- “Step 1” asks you for your “USC Identification Number”. You should enter
your social security number (or 999 number if you are an international
student) into this field.
- “Step 2” asks for your “Student Pin Number”. Initially, your PIN should be
the numeric representation of your month and day of birth. For example, if
you were born on April 27, your PIN would be 0427. For your security, you
will be required to immediately change your PIN. Be prepared to choose
another four-digit PIN that you will be able to recall.
- “Step 3” will lead you through the PIN change process.
- After you change your PIN, you will need to repeat “Step 1” using your new
PIN.
- Click on “Academics” from the menu on the left side of the page
- Use the drop down menu for “Course Registration” to choose the semester in
which you wish to register; then click “Show Me”
- Scroll down to the drop down menu at the bottom of the page and choose
“Add”
- Type in the six-digit schedule code in the “Schedule Code” field and then
click “Go” (Please register by typing in the six-digit schedule code instead
of the class name if the class has more that one section.)
- Continue to type in the schedule codes and click “Go” until you have
entered all the courses in which you wish to register.
- When you are finished, click “Go to the Main Menu” at the bottom of the
screen
- New students do not have appointment times, but each semester following,
students will need to check VIP for a registration appointment time. You may
register any time after your appointment time.
- There are several other menu options on VIP. For instance, you may print
out your schedule, print your bill and pay fees, check the status or apply
financial aid, update your address, check grades, print out exam schedules,
apply for housing and parking, and much more.
- Please contact the Registrar’s Office (777-5555) or the Arnold School of
Public Health Office of Student and Alumni Services (777-5031) if you have
problems or questions regarding registration or VIP. You may also find the
VIP Registration
