ezXTN a free file extension changer for Windows

This is a very simple drag and drop file extension changer. My work with medical images means that I often want to change the name of thousands of files (e.g. changing filename.dcm to filename.img). My software will rapidly convert thousands of files. You simply type in the original (input) and desired (output) extension and then drag and drop the files or folders you wish to convert. The software will then search recursively through any subfolders and change the extension of any file that has the original extension. This program also remembers your preferred extensions between uses; this means that, if you drop a folder (or files) onto the icon for the program, it will offer to perform the last rename you did with it.

Note that you should use this tool with extreme caution: you can accidentally reset many file names, and there is no 'undo' feature (of course, if you didn't have any files with the changed-to extension beforehand, you could simply reverse the input and output extensions and convert the names back). This program contains one slightly advanced feature: if you have multiple copies (not shortcuts to the same program) with different filenames, each will store different preferences. Therefore you can have one copy named "htm2html.exe" and another called "me2txt.exe" that can be set to perform different changes. Use this software at your own risk. To download the software (with Delphi code), shift+click here.

Below are a few free renaming programs. All of these programs are much more powerful than my own, but also a bit trickier to use.
