Mission Statement
To promote and advance knowledge of the nature, prevention,
diagnosis, and treatment of communicative disorders. Through excellence in
scientific research, instruction, and service, the Department seeks to
fulfill its mandate as the leading graduate and research program in
communication sciences and disorders in South Carolina. The scope of the
program reflects the broader community (state, national, and international)
it seeks to serve.

Graduate Degrees and Objectives

Master Degree Program
Objectives:
- To provide a graduate level education in the normal communication
process, as well as the nature, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of
communicative disorders.
- To meet the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
guidelines for national certification of graduates.
- To adhere to the state requirements for certification and licensure
as a master’s level speech-language pathologist.
- To conduct and disseminate research related to the normal
communication process, as well as the nature, prevention, diagnosis, and
treatment of communicative disorders.
Doctor of Philosophy
Objectives:
- To provide a doctoral level education in the normal communication
process, as well as the nature, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of
communicative disorders.
- To conduct and disseminate research related to the normal communication
process, as well as the nature, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of
communicative disorders.
