DATABASE |
|

The Adult Neurological Disorders Laboratory contributes
to the South Carolina Huntington’s Disease (HD) Registry
by providing information on cognitive-linguistic
function of individuals at risk for HD, presymptomatic
for HD, and individuals with diagnosed HD. Individuals
are provided information during the initial evaluation
for the disorder and longitudinally. All data are
maintained for analysis of cognitive/linguistic function
and relationships to neurologic brain function.

| NAMING IN DEMENTIA |
|
This laboratory has specific interest in different forms
of naming including confrontation naming, generative
naming, and naming in discourse. Studies have compared
types of naming in persons with dementia and naming
function in individuals with dementia of differing
etiologies. |
| IMAGING |
|
Current
studies include imaging studies of individuals with HD
using the McCausland Center 3T Magnetic Resonance
Imager. These studies involve examining the density of
tissue and the function of those with dementia. |
| LONGITUDINAL STUDIES |
This
laboratory has been collecting data for over 15 years,
and the data set contains information on
individuals with dementia over a significant period of
time – often from presymptomatic stages through severe
dementia. Control data were also collected using a
battery of cognitive/linguistic tasks. |
| SECONDARY DATA EXAMINATION
REGARDING SPEECH-LANGUAGE SERVICE UTILIZATION |
|
The laboratory has examined the
utilization of speech, language, and hearing services by
in a study of individuals with stroke and in a second
study of individuals with dementia. Data from the
dementia study are displayed on the attached poster from
ASHA 2006.
