To be admitted to graduate study leading to the MSP or MCD
degree,
the applicant must meet the requirements of both the
Graduate School and the Department of Communication Sciences
and Disorders. Applicants should have a broad educational
background including physical, social, and behavioral
science courses. The American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association requires that applicants have completed, as a part of
their undergraduate preparation, academic coursework in each of the following areas:
a biological science, a physical science (chemistry or physics), a behavioral and/or social science, and statistics.
Applicants must furnish three letters of recommendation
(preferably from three former professors) regarding the
applicant's academic and intellectual abilities, character,
and potential for success in the field of speech-language
pathology. Official transcripts from all schools attended
must be submitted, and GRE scores are required. Applicants
are strongly encouraged to make full use of the available
study materials to prepare for the Graduate Record Exam.
As is common practice at
universities across the nation, the Department weighs most
heavily scores obtained on the Verbal and Quantitative
sections. Students having interest and/or experience
in research should indicate so in their letters.
Application Deadline
All applications to the MSP and MCD programs must be
completed and received in our office no later than February
1st of the year in which you wish to enroll. To
meet this deadline, applicants should begin the application process the previous October. Students who wait
until January to begin the application process often do not
meet the February 1st deadline. The Admissions Committee
will not review any application that is not complete by this
deadline. Consult
the University's
academic calendars for specific academic semester
dates.
