much.

Building Gifts
To move into the future and remain a vital resource
for the state, region, and nation, the Department of Communication Sciences and
Disorders must continue to expand. We have outgrown our current physical location;
our facilities are spread across the city. With a new building to house breakthrough treatment
programs and research, COMD will continue its mission to improve the quality
of life for South Carolinians well into the future. Your contribution and support
can make the difference. Please take a moment to consider how you can help.
Facility
We envision a new facility that will allow us to continue our state-of-the-art
research and treatment programs. This building will house all clinical programs
including the USC Speech and Hearing Center and the COMD labs. The new facility
will bring together faculty, students, and resources to provide the highest quality
services to people with speech and hearing problems.
COMD has acquired a piece of land on the new Arnold
School of Public Health Campus near the Colonial Center and Koger Center for
the Arts. The site would support a two-story 20,000-square-foot building that
would manifest our vision. It will take $3 million for us to begin construction.
Labs & Equipment
In addition to the actual building, supporters can help equip the USC Speech
and Hearing Center and the COMD research laboratories, which will require additional
funding.
TThe new Center will be home to all clinical programs and will
include audiology suites, evaluation and treatment rooms, a waiting area, and
a parent-training center. The laboratories will include state-of-the-art equipment
including high speed vocal imaging devices, computerized fMRI analysis equipment,
digitized speech and language sampling programs, and other speech, language,
and hearing instrumentation.
Naming Opportunities
Please consider making your name, the name of a loved one, or the name of your
company a permanent part of this important facility by choosing one of the following
naming opportunities. Your tax-deductible gift can provide a significant catalyst
toward prevention and remediation of communication disorders of South Carolinians.

Other Ways to Help
Angel Scholarships - Patient Support
Each year, service programs at our Center reach out to help thousands of people
communicate with their families, friends, and communities. Angel Scholarships
in increments of $500 ( an amount that will provide treatment for one semester
) can be given for patients who are in financial need. Your gift will ensure
that this individual will receive quality services that the family would otherwise
be unable to afford.
21st Century Scholarship Program - Student Support
Educating students is the primary mission of the University. The Department
seeks to attract the brightest and most talented students and to provide quality
in all aspects of their education. Scholarship opportunities will be available
for these students through our “21st Century Scholarship Program” beginning
in 2005. Please consider a contribution to this fund to support a gifted student.
Special Gifts
There are a variety of ways to provide gifts to the USC Speech and Hearing Center. The Department maintains a “WishList” of both small and large needs. Every gift can have a positive impact on the experience of individuals seen in our Center and contribute to the outreach to our citizens.
