SPH LIBRARY RESOURCES
COMMITTEE
Purpose
The Arnold School of Public Health’s Library
Resources Committee oversees the distribution and
spending of funds allocated to the school by the
Thomas-Cooper Library for appropriate library resources. These
funds are provided to support teaching, research
and services needs of the faculty and students in
the school. The committee also reviews annually
the current journal/periodical holdings of each department
with the school.
The current goals of the SPH Library Resources Committee
are to:
- facilitate
the acquisition of library resources through
monitoring the spending of money allocated to the
school;
- request
the purchasing of new journals/periodicals;
- meet
with the Thomas-Cooper Library representative
for health to review the status of holdings and
regulations for purchasing library resources.
Committee Members
The committee is composed of the library representative
for health and one faculty member from each department,
the associate dean for academic affairs serves as ex-officio and
one student. Faculty members are appointed
by the Office of Academic Affairs upon recommendation
by department chairs and typically serve a period
up to three academic years. The student representative
serves for one academic year.
Committee Chair and Chair Responsibilities
The chair of the committee is appointed by the Office
of Academic Affairs and typically serves in that
capacity for 1-2 years. The chair’s responsibilities
include:
- establishing
regular monthly meeting dates/times and notifying
the Office of Academic Affairs and all SPH faculty
of those dates/times;
- assuring
that complete minutes are taken at each meeting
and are included in the committee folder for the
current academic year;
- notifying
the Office of Academic Affairs of pertinent outcomes
of all committee meetings;
- informing
department representatives of the money allotted
for new purchases and the regulations governing
those purchases;
- assuring
that all requests are forwarded to the appropriate
source.
