SPH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
COMMITTEE
Purpose
The Arnold School of Public Health’s Information
Technology Committee is an advisory committee to
the dean. The purpose of the committee is to:
gather
information from faculty, staff and students about
what they believe are the present and future technological
needs for the school;
- disperse
information about available resources to faculty,
staff and students;
- guide
the Health Sciences Computer Lab’s staff
in purchasing hardware for computer labs;
- establish
guidelines regarding the availability and support
of software in computer labs and a policy about
how this software is funded;
- advise
the dean regarding resources needed by faculty,
staff and students, as well as the staffing needs
to provide these resources;
- provide
the dean with specific advice on allocation of
funds; particularly those obtained from university
instructional and technology fees;
- advise
the dean regarding the purchase and storage of
technological equipment that will be used by faculty,
staff and students in multiple departments across
the school;
- provide
advice about technology needed for web-page construction
and maintenance, distance education and other
similar topics as requested by the dean.
Committee Members
The Information Technology Committee is composed
of one faculty representative from each academic
department within the school, a student representative
and a chairperson. A staff member of the Health
Sciences Computing Laboratory serves as an ex-officio member
of the committee. Faculty members are appointed
by the Office of Academic Affairs upon recommendation
by department chairs and typically serve a period
of up to three academic years. Student representatives
typically serve for a one year period.
Committee Chair and Chair Responsibilities
The chair of the committee is appointed by the Office
of Academic Affairs and typically serves in that
capacity for 1-2 years. The chair’s responsibilities
include:
- establishing
regular monthly meeting dates/times and notifying
the Office of Academic Affairs and all SPH faculty
of those dates/times;
- assuring
that complete minutes are taken at each meting
and are included in the committee folder for the
current academic year;
- notifying
the Office of Academic Affairs of pertinent outcomes
of all committee meetings;
- consulting
with appropriate faculty and department concerning
issues surrounding technology services; and
- submitting
a list of actions taken during the current academic
year at the end of each spring semester.
