Continuing & Distance Education Committee
Purpose
The purpose of the Arnold School of Public Health’s
Continuing & Distance Education Committee is
to support and promote opportunities for quality
learning experiences in public health throughout
the state of South Carolina.
- The current goals of the SPH Continuing & Distance
Education Committee are to:
- develop
policies for the operation and assessment of
the Arnold School of Public Health’s continuing
education program (subject to the approval by
the dean and assembled faculty;
- determine
priorities for the implementation of the continuing
education program, and
- act
as a departmental liaison for faculty involvement
in continuing education activities.
Committee Members
The committee is composed of the director of distance
education, four faculty members, three ex-officio
members and one student. Faculty members are
appointed by the Office of Academic Affairs upon
recommendation by department chairs and typically
serve a period of up to three academic years. The
director of distance education is appointed by the
dean; ex-officio members are appointed by the Associate
Dean for Academic Affairs.
Committee Chair and Chair Responsibilities
- The director of distance education serves as
the chair of the committee. The chair’s
responsibilities include:
- establishing
regular monthly meeting dates/times and notifying
the Office of Academic Affairs and all SPH faculty
of those dates/times;
- assuring
that complete minutes are taken at each meeting
and are included in the committee folder for the
current academic year;
- notifying
the Office of Academic Affairs of pertinent outcomes
of all committee meetings;
- consulting
with appropriate faculty and departments concerning
issues surrounding curriculum requests; and
- submitting
a complete file to the Office of Academic Affairs
at the end of each academic year.
