SPH CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
Purpose
The Arnold School of Public Health’s Curriculum
Committee is vital to the school to provide quality
control to curriculum items. The purpose of
the SPH Curriculum Committee is to oversee newly
proposed curricula or changes to existing curricula. The
committee also offers suggestions to the proposer
that will maintain a consistency in formatting and
purpose. In addition, the committee acts to
prevent potential duplication or conflicts with existing
curricula before these curricula are forwarded to
the school’s faculty for review, discussion
and approval.
The current goals of the SPH Curriculum Committee
are to:
- review
proposed new courses or curricula;
- review
additions/deletions/changes to existing courses
or curricula;
- offer
suggestions regarding new courses or modifications
to existing courses, which maintains consistency
of format and purpose before these changes are forwarded
to the general school’s faculty for approval.
Committee Members
The committee is composed of six members, one representative
from each department in the Arnold School of Public
Health and a student member. Faculty members
are appointed by the Office of Academic Affairs upon
recommendation by department chairs and typically
serve a period of up to three academic years.
Committee Chair and Chair Responsibilities
The chair of the committee is appointed by the Office
of Academic Affairs and typically serves in that
capacity for 1-2 years. The chair’s responsibilities
include:
- establishing
regular monthly meetings dates/times and notifying
the Office of Academic Affairs and all SPH faculty
of those dates/times;
- assuring
that complete minutes are taken at each meeting
and are included in the committee folder for the
current academic year;
- notifying
the Office of Academic Affairs of pertinent
outcomes of all committee meetings;
- consulting
with appropriate faculty and departments concerning
issues surrounding curriculum requests; and

a list of actions taken during the current academic
year at the end of each spring semester.
