SCHEART Training Nets
Practice Makes Perfect
Twice each month SCHEART (South Carolina Healthcare Emergency Amateur Radio Team) conducts training nets to improve the skills of ham operators interested in emergency response. Both new and experienced ham operators practice on-air communication using hand-held or base station equipment to hone their skills for:
- accessing the SCHEART Repeater System and linking repeaters when necessary
- communicating correctly and practicing net etiquette on the air – especially important for new ham operators
- readiness in operating equipment for redundant communications.
SCHEART training nets occur twice monthly:
- on the first Thursday of every month at 9:00 AM (0900 hrs.) and
- on the third Thursday of every month at 9:00 PM (2100 hrs.).
If you need assistance or have questions about SCHEART and other training nets, and to find their scheduled links, IRLP repeater information and special notes please go to http://www.scheart.us/status.htm. Also visit www.scheart.us for local area frequencies, updates, and activation instructions. If you do not have ham radio equipment but would like to listen to a scheduled net, please go to the web address at the times mentioned above, and click on “Conference Main Streaming Audio” [box at left of the map] to hear the net over your computer speakers.
If you need assistance at your hospital/healthcare facility regarding ham radio support, please notify dease@sc.edu or call (803) 978-7570.
