The SCHEART Quarterly Award

The South Carolina Healthcare Emergency Amateur Radio Team (SCHEART) Award was established to recognize individuals affiliated with SCHEART for their significant contributions.  This award applies to radio response team members, healthcare employees, community volunteers, support organizations, and other ESF-8 (health and medical) response personnel.

Because amateur radio is a noncommercial entity that operates solely on volunteer assistance, these individuals are a valuable asset to our community. Therefore, we feel that we need to recognize the ongoing efforts and commitment of the volunteers for this initiative. To nominate a ham radio operator in your community for this award, please consider his/her accomplishments and submit strong justification.

When compiling the award package, the nominator must provide the FACTS! Remember, bullet statements are more compelling and easier to evaluate when comparing before and after statistics, measurable amounts or achievements never attained before.

To simplify things, the writer needs to address the three questions listed below and elaborate on his/her answers to justify the nomination.

  1. Criteria: (Provide the FACTS!)
    •   What did the member do?
    •   How did he/she accomplish it?
    •   What was the result/impact?
  2. Here’s an example:
    1. Licensed more then 100 volunteers -- an increase of 45 from the previous quarter.
    2. Developed a standardized lesson plan, revised training materials and started a recruiting campaign.
    3. Increased the pass rate from 79% to 98% in the region.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The nature and results of the member’s accomplishments must set him or her apart from others submitting packages in the same quarter.

KEY POINTS

  1. Start by thinking positively about the nominee for the SCHEART quarterly award.  Write out bullets that will help you paint a positive picture of the nominee.
  2. When deciding what to list first, start with the fact that will make the greatest impact.  To help, ask yourself what impressed you most and start with that.
  3. The nominee’s attitude and commitment are important.  All accomplishments must be through volunteerism and done in good faith.  Keep the “whole” person concept in mind.
  4. Only use the information that is relevant to the quarter for which you are submitting the nomination.
